How We Chose a Symbol for our Flagship Cider

When thinking about Bend Cider Co. and what we are trying to achieve (besides the most delicious dry hard cider), we wanted our DRY flagship cider to be symbolized by something that brings us back to the simpler times, a classic image of the "west".  The bison is what first came to mind when envisioning this, imagining settlers traveling the Oregon Trail in the 19th century seeing these massive creatures WANDER FREE (our tag line).

Although the bison is extinct in Oregon- it is our mission to bring awareness to each animal on our cans (each flavor of our cider has an animal associated with it). This is a near threatened species. " There are approximately 31,000 total bison in 68 conservation herds (herds managed in the public interest by governments and environmental organizations) in North America." ( IUCN Red List)

The Bison Art by Sheila Dunn

Artist, Sheila Dunn, has done an incredible job of capturing the colors of Oregon's high desert  in this piece of art. We couldn't be happier to partner with Sheila, not only is she a great person, she also shares a love for her community and conservation just like we do at Bend Cider Company! She will be painting all of our images for our different flavors of cider in the months to come :)

Keep a look out for Sheila's art around Central Oregon!
